(Sarah Chang)
The KZN
Philharmonic proudly presents three concerts featuring acclaimed violin soilist
Sarah Chang, recognised as arguably one of the most accomplished violin
soloists currently on the world stage.
Ms Chang
has performed and recorded with many of the great orchestras of the world
including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Dresden Philharmonic
and the London Symphony Orchestras.
Yehudi
Menuhin described her as “the most wonderful, perfect, ideal violinist” he had
ever heard.
She
will be performing Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. Sibelius
aspired to being a violin soloist himself but his training was insufficient (he
didn’t take up the instrument until he was 15) and his considerable natural
talent was for composition. Throughout his distinguished career, he continued
to admire the violin as a solo instrument and this concerto is his only work
for a solo instrument with an orchestra.
The programme, which will be conducted by Theodore
Kuchar, also includes Wagner’s Rienzi
Overture and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at
an Exhibition.
The
concert takes place tonight (June 13) at 19h30 in the Durban
City Hall. Enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbly on arrival and a chocolate at
interval.
The pre-concert talk in Durban will be
conducted by Liezl-Maret Jacobs in the Playhouse Alhambra Room at 18h15.
Entrance is R10. Concert tickets R135 to R350 booked through Computicket or at
the door.
The same programme will be performed in
Johannesburg on June 20 and 22 at 20h00 in the Linder Auditorium, Wits
University Campus. Tickets R350 and R450. Booking is also at Computicket.
