After a series of countrywide auditions,
where hopefuls were put through their triple-threat paces, the audition panel for
the 2013 ACT | DALRO | Nedbank Performing Arts Scholarships has decided on the
top six finalists who will compete for the prize of having their tertiary
tuition sponsored.
Among the finalists who will compete to win
one of three performing arts scholarships, with a combined value of R315,000 is
Naledi Majola from KZN.
Currently completing Grade 12 at St Anne’s
Diocesan College in Hilton, this passionate musician plays the piano, is a
member of the School Choir and the Chamber Choir as well as the Jazz Band. She
performed in St Anne’s productions of Chicago
and Lysistrata as well as a musical
revue. Naledi is passionate about acting for theatre and film and is planning
to further her acting skills for these mediums in 2014.
With support from the Arts and Culture
Trust, DALRO and Nedbank Arts Affinity; the three scholarship winners will be
supported to study a performing arts course at their choice of South African
tertiary institution. They will also receive practical support beyond their
studies, including representation by SA’s top talent agency Talent Etc.
The final event, which will be hosted by UJ
Arts & Culture at the University of Johannesburg, will see the six
finalists showcasing their acting, dancing and singing abilities to a live
audience and a panel of judges who are well-respected in the performing arts
industry.
