“Pages from a Grandmother's Piano Album” is how popular
classical pianist Christopher Duigan describes his next concert’s charming
selection of music that would be found in many popular piano albums (hiding in
every piano bench) but seldom heard on any concert stage.
This choice of music is the focus of this innovative and
beautiful programme. Christopher Duigan turns his attention to this neglected
repertoire and includes favourites such as Rustle
of Spring, Wedding day at Troldhaugen,
Padarewski's Minuet in G, March of the
Tin Soldiers, and many others. A light, charming and highly listenable
selection that is due to be played in additional performances Kloof, Pretoria
and Howick in August. Friday's concert (today) takes place appropriately on Women's'
Day August 9.
