The next two episodes of Series 5 of Inspector George Gently can be seen on Friday nights at 20h00 on BBC Entertainment (channel 120 on DStv)

1960s police drama returns with four feature-length films, starring Martin Shaw as the titular detective.

Set in Northumberland in 1968, the new episodes see Lee Ingleby back as mouthy sidekick Bacchus, with guest stars including Lenora Crichlow (Being Human), Gary Carr (Death in Paradise), Roger Lloyd Pack (Only Fools and Horses) and Geraldine Somerville (Cracker).

Cases that Gently must crack this series include the murder of a young girl that opens the detective’s eyes to the consequences of racism. Gently rubs shoulders with the aristocracy following a suspicious death, attempts to track down the kidnapper of an adopted child and must face up to an old foe when a vicious career criminal is released from prison.
