The
SAIFTA (South Africa India Film and Television Awards) stage is set to sizzle
as two of Bollywood’s hottest actresses and dancers, Maduri Dixit and Priyanka
Chopra, will be performing.
They
will be joined by a host of heartthrobs, including Ranveer Singh and Siddharth
Malhotra, tele-stars Manish Paul, Mona Singh, Apurva Agnihotri and Shilpa
Agnihotri among many others ... plus stars from South Africa, including Karen
van Pletsen and The Durban Gospel Choir as well as Bollywood wannabe, Aaron
MacIlroy.
The
inaugural South Africa India Film and Television Awards (SAIFTA), takes place
at the Durban ICC Arena on September 6, 2013, and the organisers - Celebrity Locker,
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism KZN, are billing the event
as the social occasion of the year.
Gorgeous
Dia Mirza and celebrated filmmaker Karan Johar will host SAIFTA 2013, bringing to
the stage their brand of charisma, wit, humour and glamour.
Over 150
prominent film and TV personalities, including actor, film producer and former
model, John Abraham, will be walking the SAIFTA red carpet, Oscars-style, along
with the who’s who of the film and television industry from both countries.
These celebrities will get a chance to rub shoulders and interact with 30 top
film and TV personalities of South Africa.
The
stunning Jaqueline Fernandes, who wowed the audience at the SAIFTA launch in
March, along with the unconventional Hard Kaur, will be back by popular demand.
‘Dancing
queen’, Madhuri Dixit, who is cited as one Bollywood’s best actresses and
dancers, holds the record for the highest number of Best Actress Nominations
(13) at Filmfare. In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s
fourth-highest civilian award by the Government of India.
SAIFTA
Creative Director, Kedhar Gawde, beamed: “Ever since I have been directing
shows, my first choice of star has been Madhuri but I have never had the
privilege of working with her until now .... and now my dream is coming true,
at SAIFTA in Durban. I am so pleased that through SAIFTA, we are able to expose
a star of this calibre to the Durban audience. Bringing these types of stars to
Durban will further strengthen SAIFTA’s aim to put the city and KwaZulu-Natal
on the map as an ideal Bollywood film location.”
Pandit
Birju Maharaj, a Kathak dancer who choreographed Mardhuri in the film Devdas, calls her “the best Bollywood dancer
due to her versatility.” Film directors describe her as a ‘choreographer’s
delight” ... and 45 Durban dancers will have the honour of dancing with her at
the gala South Africa India Film and Television Awards. SAIFTA takes place at
the Durban ICC Arena on Friday 6 September.
The
Durban SAIFTA dancers are undergoing rigorous nine-hour daily dance rehearsals
for under the strict choreography of Mumbai expert, Geeta Kapoor, who was a
judge on TV reality show Dance India
Dance. She also choreographed the opening of the Pepsi IPL 2013.
An
audience of 6,000 fans and celebrities is expected to attend the gala SAIFTA
extravaganza and plenty more will gather on the Durban ICC Arena Concourse to
witness the red-carpet arrivals.
