(“Accordion
Book” by Minenhle Hlatshwayo)
VANSA in
collaboration with the COLLECTIVE will present More
Than a Page, a week-long Artists Books group exhibition that will showcase the
results of a workshop hosted by Cheryl Penn and VANSA (Visual Arts Network
South Africa).
The
workshop began with a review of Mail Art and the general genre of Artists Books
as an art medium. This was followed by a hands-on workshop where the participants
made different types of books: an Accordion-bound book and a Pamphlet Stitch Book.
This exhibition is an impressive recollection of personal narratives and
experiences captured between the flaps of a couple of pages, to make a book.
Participating
artists include Pam Benporath, Susie Blanckenberg, Anita Dlamini, Natalie Fossey,
Minenhle Hlatshwayo, Rifka Kirsten, DK Maponya, Sarita Mathur, Sharon McClelland,
Sita Suzanne Moyo, Sarojini Müller, Witty Nyide, Wayne Reddier, Jean Powell,
Karen Pretorius, Deidre Skultz, Andrew Swanepoel and Di van Wyk.
More Than a Page opens on September 2
at 18h00 and runs until September 7 at 14h00 at the COLLECTIVE which is
situated at 48b Florida Road, (entrance on 4th Avenue) Fourth Avenue,
Morningside. A cash bar will be available and car guards will be on duty. More
