Guests in SABC3’s People of the
South this Sunday (August 11) will be well-known and popular theatre couple, Michael
Richard & Louise St Clair.
Michael and Louise actually met at Pact Playwork, fell in
love and got married. They have two children, Jeremy and Sarah, who have both
gone into the acting industry.
The series takes a rare glimpse into the life of this acting
family. Michael and Louise speak of how they met on stage, how their
relationship coped with the tumultuous life of theatre and touring. A few of their
funny stories are narrated with their friends at lunch, godfather to their
children - director Alan Swerdlow, and close friend and actor Graham Hopkins.
The youngsters talk about life with their actor parents and the
series offers a tender family moment as they reveal to each other what they
mean to each other.
Louise grew up in a fairly normal family with a brother and
a sister. Her mother was an artist and her father was a graphic designer. She
knew from an early age that she wanted to perform.
Michael was born in Zimbabwe. He took part in school plays,
played sport and was part of a rock band before leaving Zimbabwe to go to
University at UCT. He did one year of a teaching degree and that persuaded him
that all he wanted to do was drama. So he made the switch and that was the
beginning of his career.
People of the South will be aired on SABC3 on August
11 at 20h30.
