Westville Boys’ High School proudly
presents William Shakespeare’s most beloved comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Hilarious disaster ensues when two young
lovers flee the tyranny of the Duke of Athens in pursuit of love and are
bewitched in the nearby magical woods. Add a misapplied love potion, mistaken
identities, a lovers’ quarrel among the king and queen of the fairy world, and
a troupe of insanely comic rustics in a play-within-a-play and you have the
recipe for one of Shakespeare’s most fascinating and erudite treatises on love.
Directed and designed by Luke Holder with
choreography by Devin Möller and musical direction by Matric pupil Seth Parkin,
A Midsummer Night’s Dream, although
remaining true to the original text, has been reinterpreted and adapted for
current South African audiences. Featuring music by Metallica, Seether and Pink,
and epic Bollywood dance sequences, stick fighting and outrageous costumes,
this show promises to be a worthy addition to the school’s already exceptional
Performing Arts tradition.
A
Midsummer Night’s Dream runs from September 12 to 19
with performances at 18h30 in the Roy Couzens Theatre at Westville Boys High
School. Tickets R30 (R20 for scholars). For more information, or to book
tickets, contact 031 267 1330.
