Written by Jessica Pitchford, Carte Blanche: The Stories Behind the
Stories dips into an era of quality journalism through the eyes of the
producers and presenters who have so effectively measured the national mood and
recognised defining moments.
It recalls the host of unforgettable
characters the show has brought to our screens, from the transsexuals of
Beaufort West and the controversial directors of Aurora to the predators who
lurk on dating websites and some of rugby’s best-known rogues. It’s an
unabashed look at what goes on behind the scenes of the nation’s
longest-running current affairs show and reveals some of the passionate and
colourful characters involved in its production over the past quarter of a
century.
Originally from the Eastern Cape, Jessica
Pitchford has been a journalist in Johannesburg since graduating from Rhodes
University in the eighties. Her position as managing-editor at Carte Blanche is
a departure from a long career in reporting and producing for SABC news and
current affairs.
