MIMI @ CENTRE FOR JAZZ

(Mimi Ntenjwa)

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at UKZN will present the highly acclaimed singer, Mimi, on October 2.

Mimi Ntenjwa holds a Jazz degree in performance from UCT. During her University days she was a part of the UCT Philharmonic Orchestra. Her astonishing vocal abilities paved way for her to share the world’s big stages with the likes of Sibongile Khumalo, Judith Sephuma, Jimmy Dludlu, Themba Mkhize, to name just a few at home. She has also shared the stage with internationals including Khadja Nin, Rita Marley, Joe McBride and Lauryn Hill.

Mimi was a part of Afro Latin Jazz band Tucan Tucan (led by pioneering Mozambican drummer Frank Paco), Mamavox, and SAFRA Jazz Band consisting of women from France and South Africa.

Her successful debut album, The Essence of My Soul, was produced by her pianist husband, Mdu Mtshali, who will also be on piano for this Durban concert. This award-winning album contains warm tunes with eclectic melodies. The Essence of My Soul has subtle Latino influences.
