A busy
weekend of participative family activities is ahead with the seventh annual
Glenwood Festival which takes place this weekend from September 6 to 8.
The
proactive Glenwood Community Forum in Durban believes this bustling suburb is
“A good place to live, work, educate and raise a family”. To this end, they will
host a weekend festival with events on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.
Amid the sports activities there are concerts as well as arts and crafts.
Opening tomorrow
evening (September 5), a showcase of more than 100 works of art from the
various local high schools will be on display at the KZNSA Gallery. The work
can be viewed in the gallery over the weekend.
On Friday
evening (September 6) the Glenwood Community Proms will take place at Glenwood
Prep School, featuring the Durban City Orchestra who will present a musical
feast for the whole family with guest artists Shannon Hope and Clive Gumede
under the baton of Russell Scott. The programme includes light classical pieces,
film scores and orchestrations of evergreen favourites. Tickets R65 on sale at
Glenwood Prep School daily from 08h00 to 15h00 and online at www.glenwoodforum.org.za . Bring picnic
baskets, camp chairs and blankets. Safe parking is available for ticket holders
on the school main field.
The
Artists in Action and Annual Glenwood Chess Challenge is on at Glenwood Prep.
The Camelot College Craft Market, also at Glenwood Prep, will once again have
lots of interesting craft goods on sale. Glenwood Prep School will host a
Pre-Schools fun morning, with children’s games, jumping castles, clowns, horse
rides and lots more.
Around midday
on Saturday, there will be a special performance by the Durban Girls’ High
School Drummies and Glenwood High School Band. Saturday evening sees the launch
of the Concert on the Grass @ Stella
when local bands and soloists will perform on the Stella Sports Club soccer
field. The line-up includes Lieutenant Vinyl, Sir Walrus Band, Shannon Hope and
Veranda Panda. Bring picnic baskets, camp chairs and blankets. Food and drink
will be on sale. Entrance is by ticket only. Tickets R40 (children under 10 free)

After
last year’s great success, The Bulwer Food & Craft Lover’s Market will be
run again on Sunday morning in Bulwer Park from 10h00 to 14h00. There will be a
range of deli-items for an open air spring picnic brunch, and there will be
gift ideas, décor inspirations, arts and crafts on sale. For more information phone

Sunday
is a “Community Day of Prayer”. An interdenominational service will be held at
the Glenwood High School at 6.30 pm. Entry is free and all are welcome.
