The most popular Soapie Stars in the country will be
revealed at the beginning of October when the finalists for inaugural Royalty
Soapie Awards will be announced.
The more than 100 nominations received in the 20 categories
have been judged and are currently being verified by the auditors. Five
finalists per category will be announced who will then go through to the
showpiece finale at the Durban International Convention Centre on November 2, 2013,
where the winners per category will be revealed.
With soap operas being amongst the most watched television
programmes in South Africa it will be the first time that both the Stars and
the behind-the-scenes personnel will be acknowledged.
“The Royalty Soapie Awards seek to honour, celebrate and
promote creativity, quality and excellence among South African soapie
productions,” said project director Sindile Xulu. There has been an
overwhelmingly positive response from the industry during the nominations
process and we are very pleased at the industry stature of the judges who have
given their time and expert opinion. KPMG have finalised the scores and we are
confident in the outcome”.
In terms of the judging process, the Royalty Soapie Awards
steering committee has selected judges with an affinity for the arts and
experts in the TV production industry, photographers, actors, TV & radio
personalities and entertainment media etc. In addition to the judged categories
there is one public voting category for the Most Popular Soapie of the Year.
The finalists of the first Royalty Soapie Awards will be
revealed on October 1 with the Awards ceremony taking place on the first
weekend in November when major industry players and fans gather in Durban for a
night of celebrations.
