KIMBALL GALLAGHER

(Kimball Gallagher)

Don’t miss the rare opportunity of hearing a visiting international pianist in Pietermaritzburg. Kimball Gallagher plays Chopin’s Ballade No 4 and one of the most monumental of Romantic piano works, Liszt’s Sonata in B minor. The programme includes Jaunpuri by Michael Harrison; Ode to Antarctica (pre-premiere) by Christina Courtin; Elham Prelude by Elham Fanoos; Hamid by Jaloul Ayed and Kimball Gallagher’s own composition, Selections from 88 Preludes.

Hailed by critics as a “dynamo”, Gallagher’s sold-out 2008 debut at Carnegie Hall launched his international 88-Concert Tour which seeks to revive salon culture through 88 performances in a variety of intimate venues. This unique four-year tour continues to gain momentum with performances in private homes throughout the United States and distinguished venues all over the world, from the Kennedy Center to Kabul, Bombay to Boulder, Chicago to Shanghai and Tuscany to Tunisia.

This past season has included concerts in Paris, Cairo, Alexandria, Dubai, a tour of India and a return to Kabul, Afghanistan. Kimball now visits South Africa and Pietermaritzburg1

Each concert in the 88 concert tour creates an unparalleled forum for dialogue between artist and listener, inviting audiences into a unique live performance experience. As a gift, each concert host receives a personalized piano work written for them using a compositional system to spell out musical notes to match their name; the world-premiere is given in their home. This tour will culminate in a 2015 Celebration Concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City. A native of Boston, Kimball Gallagher earned his undergraduate degree at Rice University in the studio of Jeanne Kierman-Fischer, and his Master of Music degree as a pupil of Robert McDonald at The Juilliard School.

Kimball Gallagher will perform Concert #74e of the 88-key Concert Tour in Pietermaritzburg on October 16 at 19h30 at the home of Music Revival, 35 Montgomery Drive, Athlone. The venue opens at 19h00. R100 includes a welcome drink on arrival and coffee and there is secure parking. Booking is essential on email: booking@musicrevival.co.za or on 033 342 3051.
