Friends of Music will host the Sempre Viva
Trio on October 8. This unusual collaboration brings instruments together and
explores the world of wonderful classical, romantic and modern music. The group comprises cellist Polina Burdukova
from Russia along with South African musicians - pianist Kerryn Wisniewski and
well known violinist Denise Sutton.
The programme includes Grieg’s Andante con
moto; Vivaldi’s Concerto for violin and cello in B-flat major, RV547, Op. 20 (No.
2 Allegro; Andante and Allegro molto. Also to be performed are the Arensky Trio
in D Minor, Op 32 (Allegro moderato; Scherzo; Elegia and Finale) and the Shostakovich
Piano Trio no. 2, Op 67 (Andante-Moderato; Allegro con brio; Largo and
Allegretto as well as Faure’s Apres un
reve, Op7, No1.
The Prelude Performer of the evening will
be Rachel Wedderburn–Maxwell. She plays both the violin and piano and was
awarded 10 distinctions at the Queensburgh Festival of Arts. Her programme will
include Kuhlau - Sonatina in A Major, Op 59, No 1. Allegro Scherzando; Temmingh
- Ses Sariasies and Chopin’s Nocturne
in C Sharp Minor, Op.posth./ kk1va16.
