ScruffySession
Productions in collaboration with Xtraordinaire Dance Company will present a
rerun of Consenting Silence: Shanti
Manjur for the festive period.
Written
by Verne Munsamy and choreographed by Sashin Kandhai, this power-packed show
returns for a second season to the University of KwaZulu-Natal campus, after a
sold-out run and rave reviews in the Square Space Theatre. This time the production
will appear in the Peter Scholtz Open Air Theatre.
Back by
popular demand and described as “bigger and better” than the first season, Consenting Silence
is geared to enthral audiences with its moving storyline and furious dance
routines.
Blanketed
by the glorious Durban night sky, this Bollywood epic deals with the story of
Damini, a heroine in the struggle against rape and violent abuse. While set in
India, the tragic storyline speaks a universal theme and asks that the struggle
against such abuse become a united struggle.
As the
journey through the events of the young heroine Damini's life struggles
unfolds, it takes in her inner and outer conflict with her father, friends and
love. It is her grandmother who provides ever-loving support.
Consenting Silence runs from November 26 to 28 and
again from December 3 to 15 at 19h00. Tickets R80 (R60 students, scholars and
pensioners). For bookings, interviews and enquiries contact 083 763 6292 or
email scruffyaugust@yahoo.com between 08h30 and 17h00.
