DANIÈLE PASCAL TWO SHOWS

(Danièle Pascal. Pic by Nicky Coetzee)

Join celebrated chanteuse Danièle Pascal as she and artists worldwide celebrate the 50th anniversary of Edith Piaf.

Danièle is the ambassador of the French Chanson, accordion and bal musette in South Africa and is renowned for her interpretation of the music of Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel and other French legends. Her style is elegant and sophisticated.

This award winning actor/ playwright is one of South Africa's most celebrated artists. She has inspired many South African performers in her style of music and introduced South African audiences to various music genres ranging from cabaret, music theatre, French Café music, chanson, Berlin cabaret, rock musicals, French Jazz and FAK songbook adaptations into French.

She will present two shows in KZN - The Songs of Edith Piaf and A French Affair - on alternate nights at Rhumbelow Theatre in Durban and Pietermaritzburg as well as at the Alliance Française de Durban and the Schlesinger Theatre at Michaelhouse.

The Songs of Edith Piaf, an adaptation from Danièle’s award winning play Piaf a Passionate Life is a culturally rich and moving presentation that promises to make audiences smile with songs transporting them to other times and places. Danièle offers an introduction to Piaf’s poignant music as she embodies the little Sparrow, interpreting the melodies with that husky mournful voice so popular in 1940’s and 50’s. She will revive some of the most influential Piaf songs, such as Non je ne regrette rien, La vie en rose, Milord, Mon manège à moi and many other nostalgic hits. The show is in French and English. Daniele is once again joined by musical director Pieter van Helslandt on piano, vocals and accordion. This tour de force duo promises a concert filled with romance, passion and, most of all, love.
