(Fiona Tozer)
This evening (November 19) the Maritzburg
Musicians club will present a special person on the South African music folk
scene: Durban-based singer-songwriter and guitarist, Fiona Tozer.
Veteran of many Splashy Fens and other
national music festivals, Fiona is no stranger to Pietermaritzburg audiences.
Her songs range from contemporary folk melodies for solo voice and guitar, to
arrangements for vocal groups and acoustic rock bands while her lyrics reflect her
own experiences and comment on the human condition.
Since taking up formal music studies in 2001,
and subsequently earning a Masters degree in composition, she has been able to
expand her music vocabulary and has incorporated jazz and classical elements,
as well as other instruments into her music. Her CDs Neverland, Light and Sound and Somewhere
Else will be on sale at the door.
Joining her on stage at the Red Door is
Daniel Wilson, bassist of their new group Quark. Dan plays five string electric
fretted and fretless basses. He has played with many diverse people and has
released five albums with acid jazz group, Creeper, and on several albums by
local and international musicians including Africa’s
not for Sissies by Syd Kitchen and Water
on Canvas by RISE. For more information, visit her website at www.fionatozer.com.
So get along on tonight to the Red Door where
the music will start from 20h00. The home of the Maritzburg Musicians Club, The
Red Door is situated in Quarry Rd,
