This
month’s guest poets of the Live Poets Society (LiPS) hail from Pietermaritzburg
and go by the name of Shine Creative Ministries.
The
Shine Creative Ministries is a group of talented community activist led by
group leader Tarryn Adriaan and comprises Tara Adriaan, Joshua Smith, and
Cassandra De Jager.
The
group focuses on using the art of poetry, dance and drama to convey especially
to the youth, social messages about drug abuse, and other common ills that
plague societies and the negative social impact it has on the younger
generation.
Tarryn
Adriaan has a Degree in Media and Drama from UKZN. She is a published
journalist and blogger. She has danced with Flatfoot Dance Company’s workshopped
productions 2010, performed at and organized events throughout Pietermaritzburg
and wrote the poetry for While In The
Storm debut album for Africa in Praise Gospel Choir. She also performed at numerous
poetry and music functions.
Joshua
Smith is a Member of Africa in Praise Gospel Choir, he has travelled both
nationally and internationally and the choir group recently released their
debut album While In The Storm 2013.
He also performed at Shine Music and Poetry evening in 2012.
Other
members who will perform are Earl Koster on keyboard as well as Michelle Smith
and Samkelo Hlope. The Group has nominated “Touch” as the evening’s theme.
Those are
interested in attending are invited to take some snacks along, and make it a
bring and share evening.
The LiPS
get-together takes place on November 6 at 17h30 for 18h00 at the COLLECTIVE, 48b
Florida Road in Greyville, Durban (entrance in 4th Avenue). Admission is free
