RAM-LEELA

(Deepika Padukone & Ranveer Singh)

Those looking for some Bollywood romance this November are in for a treat with the release of the Bollywood film, Ram-Leela.

The title, said to be based on Shakespeare's tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet, but set in a time of violence, recently launched at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Kishore Lulla, the film stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the star-crossed lovers, with supporting roles played by Vivaan Bhatena, Abhimanyu Singh and Sharad Kelkar.

Ram (Ranveer Singh) comes from a violent area, where guns and brutality are part of everyday life. He is the local village ‘Romeo’ but is also a bit of a drifter. While he is prepared to fight for his great love interest, Leela (Pakukone), he will always stand by his clan… even if it means losing the love of his life.

A beautiful, young and fearless girl, Leela is born to the underworld, far removed from the violence that surrounds her. Her life revolves around her faith in her lover, the enemy, her tireless wait for him and her sacrifices for him.

When the two see each other for the first time, worlds collide, wars are fought and destinies are written in blood forever. The Jadejas and the Rabaris have been sworn enemies for the past 500 years and  the fact that their own children are falling in love with each other is worse than any storm.

Set in the vibrant landscape of Gujarat, woven with song and dance, Ram and Leela fight the world to live their own dreams. What will happen when they declare their love to the world? Will their families relent or will Ram and Leela carve their own destiny?
Ram-Leela releases at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban and Ster-Kinekor The Zone@Rosebank in Johannesburg, on Friday, 15 November.
