The legendary one and only Wendy Oldfield
will sing her brand new album to bluestockings’ guests on November 22 at the
legendary intimate live arts venue in Kloof.
Wendy Oldfield is a performer and creator
of beautiful music. During her varied career of 30 years she has recorded eight
albums, been nominated for nine SAMA awards of which she has won five for Best
Vocals, Song of the Year, Best Pop Album and two for Best Producer. She has
produced music for Leon Schuster movies, documentary soundtracks for Londolozi
films and many jingles. She supported Wet Wet Wet in 1996 and toured South Africa
with Simply Red in 1999.
Oldfield has performed over 2,500 shows in
South Africa at festivals, clubs, bars and top South African music venues with
big bands and acoustic line-ups. She has collaborated with some of South Africa’s
top artists from Arno Carstens, Karen Zoid, PJ Powers, Brenda Fassie, Sipho Hot
Stix, Vusi Mahlasela, and many more...
At the beginning of 2013, she released her
new album Supernova and on the
strength of that album was invited to play at the Edinburgh festival where she
performed 26 shows and wowed audiences with her song Burden. Oldfield is back in Durban again with the talented Joe van
der Linden for a show at Bluestockings, where she will sing songs from her
illustrious career. Expect to hear Acid
Rain, Holy Water, Legalize and more. Her unique style of singing and djembe
playing, along with Joe's incredible versatility, promises a musical funky
adventure.
