IZIKO DANCE PRODUCTION

This performance of Iziko production has now been postponed to January 2014.
“Due to the many memorial services for Tata Madiba taking place around the country we see the need to postpone our event to join the ceremony that will take place in Mabhida. We Salute you, Father of the Nation and world peacemaker. We spread your teaching. RIP” says director of Iziko, Vusi Makhanya.

IZIKO Dance Production is a diverse and inspiring two-hour production showcasing about 100 KwaMashu School of Dance Theatre Outreach projects from talented community.

The show represents the Kwa Mashu School of Dance Theatre’s end of year performance and will be performed by students ranging from juniors to young adults and includes Gumboot Dance, African Contemporary and variety of traditional dance styles.

Most of the pieces have been choreographed by KwaMashu School of Dance Theatre (KMSDT) trainees Xoliswa Makanya and Nolwazi Majola. However, guest teachers and choreographers, Mlekeleli Khuzwayo (Resident Choreographer), Jabu Siphika (Production Manager) and Thandanani Qwabe(as Narrator) have added Framework conversation on Climate Change using IZIKO Dance and Storytelling, which has affected so many lives in the world.

KMSDT has opened this platform to other art organisations who are interested in working together with its director, Vusi Makanya. The special guest group is FFDC Dudlu Ntombi, Amazebra and Blue fire production.

Following the great success of Dusi Dance Company’s performance in the artSPACEdurban Gallery in September this year, this production illustrates the ongoing growth, development and maturity of the youth who are carrying KMSDT forward into the next exciting era.

“Special thanks are due to the National Art Council for the funding of the Ubuhle bokwenza workshop and youth development, eThekwini Municipality for space to nurture skills, FFDC for being amazing in support from time to time and special thanks to friends and families who support the organization.”

Members of the public can support KMSDT, Ubhle Bokwenza Workshop and youth development by donation of any kind. Contact Director Vusi Makanya
