The KZN Quilters Guild
hosts four large quilt shows on an annual basis.
These shows showcase
quilts designed and quilted by various quilters throughout KZN. The events aim
to raise awareness of the craft. The guild also invites various speakers from
within the community to give talks on various topics. The last meeting’s speaker
was from the Alzheimer's Association, who explained how and what a sensory
quilt would consist of, in order to keep their patients’ five senses active.
“This is how we
give back to the community,” says a Guild spokesperson. “There are
shops/merchants selling their goods, as well as demos throughout the morning.
We have many visitors and all proceeds towards fundraising for the 2015
National and International Quilt show.”
Shows in 2014 take
place on March 8; May 31, September 6 and November 1.
The shows take
place from 09h00 to 14h00 at the Durban Girls High School, Glenwood (in
Penzance Road). Visitors fee R35. For more information contact Pauline Law on
