(Mali Sewell, Jason
Andrews, Barry Thomson and Dawn Selby)
Who would know that an unknown album from an unknown artist
in 1970 (Rodriguez) would become a huge phenomenon in South Africa?
As big as, say, Elvis Presley! Rodriguez himself was never
aware of his huge success, as well as most other Americans. His music was lost
in the US but, by a strange coincidence, became a cult hit in South Africa and a
symbol of rebellion for the underground white, anti-apartheid sub-culture.
Cold Fact features
all his well remembered songs such as I
Wonder, Establishment Blues and Sugar
Man, amongst others.
This musical tribute to Rodriguez’s music is performed by
Barry Thomson and The Reals featuring Dawn Selby, Mali Sewell & Jason
Andrews. There will be two performances in Pietermaritzburg for Rhumbelow
Theatre at the Allan Wilson Shellhole on January 19 at 14h00 and 18h30. The venue
opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.
Tickets R100. Bring food picnic baskets. Bar available (no
alcohol may be brought onto the premises) and there is limited secure parking. Book at Computicket or contact Roland on 031
