The Drama for Life programme in the Wits
School of Arts, University of the Witwatersrand, is accepting late applications
for the BA Honours in Drama Therapy degree, 2014 Academic Year. This course is
a pre-requisite for entry into the Drama Therapy Masters Degree, and it runs
for a year - full time.
Deadline for applications is January 24. Interviews
will be held on January 29 and 30.
Drama for Life aims to be Africa's leader
in an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to Applied Drama, Arts
Education and Drama Therapy. The Wits University-based programme enhances
dialogue for purposes of social transformation through research, teaching and
learning, and community engagement. This is achieved through a reflexive and
therapeutic approach that relates to current social realities and the rich
indigenous knowledge of Africa.
Drama therapy is the intentional and
systematic use of drama and theatre processes and products to achieve the
therapeutic goals of symptom relief, emotional, cognitive and physical
integration, and personal growth.
Requirements for Application:
- Undergraduate degree in drama and theatre
with a strong base in a related field such as psychology, social work, speech
therapy, occupational therapy and / or a degree in a related field such as
psychology, social work, speech therapy, occupational therapy with a strong
base in drama.
- Undergraduate / Postgraduate degree
specializing in Applied Drama and Theatre
- Previous experience of working with the
Arts in an educational, community and or care setting over a period of at least
one to two years fulltime (or part-time equivalent). Examples of relevant
experience include areas such as Drama Teaching within formal and non-formal
education sectors, and Theatre for development in HIV & AIDS community
education and healthcare settings.
- RPL principles will be taken into
consideration.
