British born cellist Michael Jones will
feature in Friends of Music’s next recital. He started to play at the age of
13. He has won many prizes for solo and chamber music playing and was chosen to
play for the British Royal Family.
His programme will include works from Bach
to Rodrigo – including a selection of Bach suites and Rodrigo’s Fantasia
In the Prelude Performer slot, made
possible by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, are Leah Mari –
pianist, singer and composer for as long as she can remember. Her composition Siyakhanya was performed by the KwaZulu-Natal
Youth Orchestra conducted by Richard Cock featuring Leah singing. Performing
with her will be Ella Mari, a member of the Eden College Choir who plays drums
for the school band. In 2012 Ella performed at the Hilton Arts Festival with
Leah Mari (vocals).
