Heels over Head will be performing in the #OffThaRecord
programme on February 28 at Cool Runnings, Milner Street, in the Durban CBD.
“We invited Heels over Head as an
all-female band in our love month theme – I do not think you need to ask why
these beautiful ladies for love month,” said Ninja X, one of the founders of
#OffThaRecord. “But also we want to offer a variety of music at our sessions,
from hip hop, to rock, soul, to jazz. Everyone must feel welcome at
#OffThaRecord, regardless of background and musical taste.”
Heels Over Head is just as excited about
performing in this venue: “#OffThaRecord is something different for us, we are
excited to perform in front of this new audience and hope that our fans come
along and join us at this Street Party and celebrate the end of the Love Month
with us.”
Heels over Head is made up of Thulile Zama
(vocals), Nomkhosi Mazibuko (vocals), Rebekah Pillay (drums), Susan Barry
(keys) and Ildo Nandja (bass guitar)
The Durban-based all-female jazz sensation
launched their second offering, an EP titled Sondela in November last year. This was a follow-up to their very
popular full album of 2010 called Could
It Be? which garnered them a SAMA nomination in the Contemporary Jazz
Category back in 2011 and previewed a second full album they are currently
working on. The band has not been sitting still since November and
#OffThaRecord is one of their live performances that proves they are not scared
to look for boundaries and different audiences within the Durban scene.
Heels over Head will bring a smooth jazz
set, combined with contemporary African musical phrases, evocative popular
African standards, dance inducing rhythms and happy melodic vocals.
Heels over Head appear in #OffThaRecord on February
28 at Cool Runnings, Milner Street in the Durban CBD. The doors open at 21h00 with
the show taking place at midnight. Tickets R50 at the door.
