Polart Productions presents a short season of after-supper
music - Late night with Mohammed Rafi
– at the Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf from this evening (February 17) to
the end of the week.
Durban pretty much shuts down after 21h00 except for
weekends when the only place one can be entertained after 22h00 is a nightclub.
With this in mind, Catalina manager, Francis Doherty-Bigara has decided to
introduce late night theatre: a concept that sees artists bringing more light
work to the fore. He is looking at comedy and musical reviews with talk shows
and games all starting slightly later than usual, allowing patrons to enjoy a
leisurely supper before coming to the theatre.
Mohammed Rafi (December 24 1924 – July 31 1980) was an
Indian recording artist who is considered by many to be one of the greatest
Indian playback singers of the Hindi film industry. The idea behind this show
is to review the musical genius of this vocal maestro by taking the audience on
a journey through his songs and documenting his history in music whilst adding
lots of local flavour.
The cast includes Vee Gani, Pranesh Maharaj, Veerden
Punwasi, Tansen Nepaul and Anesh Dusrath. Even if you are not a “Rafian” you
will be delighted with the energy of this show which runs for two hours from
21h00 to 23h00.
Late night with Mohammed Rafi runs at the Catalina Theatre
on Wilson’s Wharf from February 17 to 23. Tickets R100 available at Computicket
and seating is reserved. More information on 031 837 5999.
