The Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA),
in partnership with the British Council’s Connect ZA and Creative Scotland, is facilitating the opportunity for six
visual arts curators practicing in South Africa to visit Glasgow International
Festival in April 2014.
Glasgow International is a festival of
contemporary art and returns for its sixth edition in 2014 from April 4 to 21 in
Glasgow, Scotland. It takes place in various venues and locations across the
city, including Glasgow’s major art spaces and cultural institutions. The
festival is comprised of a broad and exciting programme which includes
exhibitions, events, talks, performances and projects by international and

Six curators will be funded to visit
Scotland and the Festival, travelling from April 3 to 13, 2014. The rationale
for the visit is to begin a dialogue between curators in South Africa and
curators in Scotland to explore shared interests and opportunities for
collaboration. The visit serves as an introduction for the curators to arts in
Scotland, as well as an opportunity for wider curatorial dialogue between the
two countries that might lead to exchange and exhibition opportunities in the
future. The partners have a strong interest in supporting a modest project to
be initiated out of the visit to Scotland, as well as in enabling a future
visit of Scottish curators to South Africa in the future.
All curators at any stage in their career,
practicing in South Africa, are welcome to apply. Applications must be sent to
VANSA on or before February 17 at 17h00.

-a detailed CV of no more than two pages;
-an edited curatorial portfolio in pdf
format;
-a one page statement of interest describing
your conceptual concerns in exchange and dialogue, as well as how this process
could enable a further development of these
-passport number and expiration date

A panel consisting of VANSA, British
Council and Creative Scotland representatives will select six curators. The
announcement will be made by February 26, 2014. Costs for visas, travel,
accommodation and modest stipends will be covered for the duration of the
festival visit.
