Classic ballet masterpieces performed to
music by top French composers is what South African audiences will experience
when Crown of the Russian Ballet tours the country this year.
The innovative Moscow Theatre company will
perform at the Playhouse Opera Theatre for two shows only on May 20 and 21 at 19h30.
Moscow Theatre - Crown of the Russian
Ballet was founded in 1997 as the choreography of the day demanded a new
repertoire. It is headed by artistic director Anna Alexide and chief
choreographer and lead dancer Anatoly Emelianov, who was the principal dancer
of the US Metropolitan Classical Ballet.
The programme celebrates masterpieces of
French music in ballet, including Camille Saint Saens’ Dying Swan, Jacques Brel’s Don’t
Leave Me and Ravel’s Bolero. Also
on the programme are George Bizet’s one-act ballet Carmen and the pas de deux from Le
Corsaire.
Brought to Durban once again by impresario
Edouard Miasnikov, Crown of the Russian Ballet promises a sensational classical
dance programmed performed by some of Russia’s top dancers.
Tickets range from R150 to R280. Early booking
is advised at Computicket.
