(Madhuri Dixit, who appears in “Gulaab Gang”)
If you
are in the mood for some soul-searching and contemplation about social
injustices this month, don’t miss the two Bollywood films releasing at
Ster-Kinekor this week. Both Queen
and Gulaab Gang are scheduled to be
screened at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban from Friday (March 7).
Queen follows the story of Rani (Kangana Ranaut),
a 24-year-old Punjabi girl, who is living in Delhi. She is from an
ultra-conservative family and her brother escorts her everywhere for her own
safety. However, Rani’s world is shattered and turned upside down, when her
fiancé (Rajkummar Rao) is killed tragically in a motor car accident.
Instead
of crying and lamenting about her desperate situation, Rani decides to focus
her energies on healing herself and her broken heart. She goes on her planned
honeymoon alone to find herself and what the future holds. As she travels the
world, she meets wonderful new people and gains worldly experience on her own
personal journey of rediscovering her true identity. Queen stars Kangana Ranaut, Rajkummar Rao, Lisa Haydon and Mish
Boyko. The film is directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap and
Vikramaditya Motwane.
Gulaab Gang is based on the Gulabi Gang, a group of
Indian women vigilantes and activists recognisable from their pink saris, who
are fighting the social injustices prevalent in the Bundelkhand region of
central India. In Gulaab Gang, one of the women from the group takes a stand
against corruption to create a sanctuary for abused women, while battling a
crooked politician. The film stars Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Priyanka Bose
and Vinitha Menon.
