(One of the Foodscapes paintings by Jannie van Heerden)
The idea for Artisan Gallery’s upcoming
exhibition, Foodscapes, was sparked
by a few images sent in by artist Jannie van Heerden of his current work. They were
accompanied by the comment that he was doing paintings of what he was cooking,
calling them his Foodscape series.
Included were dishes Beef Vindaloo and Cheesecake with Plum Compote.
Jannie van Heerden has a Master's Degree in
Fine Art from Rhodes University and, until his retirement, was in charge of
Visual Arts and Design for the KZN Education Department. Among his
accomplishments is the fact that he was the Chef at the Lanzerac. Just one of
his publications - Zulu Basketry,
published by Print Matters - is internationally regarded as a definitive guide
to contemporary KZN basket weaving. Copies are available at Artisan Gallery.
To complement the Foodscape paintings, Lynette Morris Hale's whimsical fish plates
and Anne Schultz's functional ceramics will ensure there will be a varied
selection of artworks to delight every "foodie".
The exhibition will be opened by “supremo-foodie”
Ingrid Shevlin on April 23 at 18h00 for 18h30 and guitarist Dave Arnold will
provide his special brand of "acoustic alchemy".
Artisan Contemporary Gallery is situated at
344 Florida Road.
