Durban-based all-female jazz sensation, Heels Over Head will
perform a special Freedom Day celebration at Jazzy Rainbow on the evening
before Freedom Day.
This day is especially significant for Heels over Head. “If
not for democracy in this country, we would not be allowed to be together as a
unit in this band and perform on one stage. We would like to celebrate this
through music and with our fans” says Rebekah Pillay, drummer of Heels over
Head.
Heels over Head have been around a while and the girls keep busy
on the popular and private circuit with their particular brand of
smooth jazz, which cunningly combines contemporary
African musical phrases, evocative popular African standards, dance inducing
rhythms and happy melodic vocals. Dressed to kill, they present well, combining
glamour and warmth. Their latest offering, Sondela,
has got just enough of the African jazz feel to keep it in the ring. Add lovely
ladies with well-trained voices, strong rhythms and loads of unashamed romance
and you’ve got a recipe for success.
The line-up of the evening: Thulile Zama (vocals), Nomkhosi
Mazibuko (vocals), Rebekah Pillay (drums), Susan Barry (keys) & Arianna
Carini (keys)
They will perform on April 26 at 20h00 (doors open at 19h00)
at the Jazzy Rainbow, Smiso Nkwanyana (ex-Goble Road), Morningside, Durban.
