A special presentation for Good Friday: experience the
sublime beauty of Haydn's String Quartet, The
Seven Last Words of Christ. Haydn conceived the work an orchestral
composition, commissioned in 1785 for the Good Friday service at Cádiz
Cathedral in Spain. The composer adapted it in 1787 for string quartet
consisting of seven adagios or meditations, each lasting approximately 10
minutes.
Performing this on Good Friday morning in the beautiful
Church of the Ascension in Hilton are Joanna Frankel and Ralitza Macheva (violins),
Marco Mazzi (viola), Cecilia di Cecco (cello) with narrator Gisella Reale.
Lasting approximately 80 mins, The Seven Last Words of
Christ takes place today (Good Friday, April 19) at 09h30 at the Church of the Ascencion
in Hilton. There is secure parking in Brindy Road. Entry by programme R100. Booking
