The Tatham Shop at the Tatham Art Gallery is
full of interesting craft, mainly from KwaZulu-Natal. Some of these gifted
local crafters, who were largely unknown and inaccessible, were rediscovered on
field trips by Gallery staff.
A popular feature of the gallery is the selection
of dolls from Embocraft Training, an organisation which provides skills
training to rural women. Whilst the women are free to make and sell their own
dolls, they also supply Embocraft as and when orders are received. Each doll is
unique, and there are males and females. There are also small artworks,
handmade greeting cards and locally produced books on art.
“If you are a maker of some interesting
craftwork we would be very pleased to see it, with the possibility of stocking
it in the shop,” says Mary Kleinenberg who is available at the gallery on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10h00 to 13h00, and on Friday afternoons from 13h00
to 16h00. Contact her to make an appointment on 033 392 2828 or email: mary.kleinenberg@msunduzi.gov.za
