Farook Khan’s book, The Goodwill Lounge, which brings alive a history of the Casbah
spanning over a century is due to be launched on May 31 at the Centre for Fine
Art, Animation and Design (CFAD), under the patronage of Dr Nanda Soobben.
This book features some of the leading
lights right across the spectrum from tycoons to gangsters, from barmen to statesmen,
from South Africa’s first woman soccer referee to international superstar, Busi
Mhlongo.
Among the luminaries are Jackie Paruk, A M
Rajab, Harriet Bolton, Jean Lomberg. Then there are others like Sheriff Khan,
The Salots and the Crimson League. From the apartheid busters to fleet footed
boardroom busters, the book also tells the story of a remarkable family and
their journey which survived the life and death of apartheid.
The launch of The Goodwill Lounge will take place on May 12 at 15h30 at the Centre
for Fine Art, Animation and Design at 183 Cowie Road, Berea, Durban.
