The Playhouse Company is holding auditions
for professional performers to take part in their upcoming production, Shades, to be staged in the Loft Theatre
as part of the Women’s Arts Festival in August.
Two white actors and one white actress are
required to perform in this West End hit by Sharman Macdonald:
A 10 year-old actor for the role of Alan, a
woman in her 60’s to play Alan’s grandmother and an actor between 35 and 40 to
play the role of the boyfriend to the lead character, Pearl.
Described as a muted funny-sad chamber
piece, Shades takes us through a
single evening in the lives of Pearl, her mother, her suitor and her young son
Alan - an evening that changes the course of their relationships forever.
"As well constructed as a Katherine
Mansfield short story, Shades makes a deep, lasting impression". (Paul
Taylor - The Independent)
The production will be directed by Ralph
Lawson and will rehearse at the Playhouse during August. Auditions will take
place at The Playhouse Company rehearsal room A1, 29 Acutt Street, Durban on May
26.
Auditionees should prepare a poem or a
short monologue and contact Sifiso Sikhakhane on 031 369 9457/ or email: artscoordinator@playhousecompany.com
during office hours to secure an
audition slot.
