LUNA PAIGE

(Luna Paige)
Open Strings will host Luna Paige’s album release, Borders & Beyond on Saturday (May 10) Shomon will be opening for Luna.

The CD is a collection of songs Luna wrote and composed over a period of 5 years since the release of her third album Wonderful life. Since the release of Wonderful life, she introduced her first Afrikaans music production to the music industry and released her first Afrikaans CD and live DVD, Storielied.

Wonderful life and Storielied took Luna on interesting journeys across South Africa as well as performances in the Netherlands, where she will perform again in June 2014.

Luna has a few surprises up her sleeve with her new album which was produced by Schalk Joubert and recorded in an unconventional way. Most of the album was recorded in Schalk’s house on Monterosso Wine Farm outside Stellenbosch. The result is a raw, stripped and honest sound which reveals the emotion and stories in Luna’s songs so much more effectively. In this album, Luna also dabbles in country and blues, surprises with a happy song or two and introduces her first ever a capella song.

Singer, Andriëtte Norman agreed to record a duet with Luna. Find your light is a positive song in which the voices of these two songstresses gel in the most effective way. Peter Mitchell (or Pietman, from the Boer and Brit show with Bok van Blerk) acted as Luna’s official backing vocalist. This term does not do him justice. His vocal contributions stretch far beyond backing vocals. Luna sees him as a fellow singer on this album. His interpretation and performance in love song, This space, is goosebump-beautiful. Blues singer, Gerald Clark delivered an emotional performance in the duet, One day. This song was written by Luna especially for Gerald Clark and herself – and was performed as part of the LOVEMORE show – a music production Luna and Gerald have been working on for the last two years. Luna decided to record this song due to its popularity at LOVEMORE shows.

Luna accompanies herself on piano and guitar in the show at Open Strings on May 10. Doors open at 19h00 and the show starts at 19h30. Entrance R100 with optional dinner (must be pre-booked) at an extra R60. Full cash bar available. Safe on-site Parking facilities. Bookings through Rod on 082 653 3948 as well as pre-payment details.
