Durban recording artist Rowan Stuart will release
his eagerly-anticipated acoustic album, Hidden
Doors, for Pietermaritzburg audiences this evening (May 23) at Music
Revival. This one-of-a-kind venue - the home of classical pianist Christopher
Duigan - is a perfect setting for an acoustic album launch, with its eccentric
and homely, yet sophisticated charm.
Hidden
Doors contains 10 original tracks, all acoustic,
with Rowan's distinctly serene vocals, clever lyrics and fluent acoustic
guitar-playing at the fore, now all containing more maturity and conviction
than ever before. With no lavish productions, and a tasteful use of restraint,
the album relies on the strength of the songwriting and performances which
really shine in this format. It was recorded and mixed by Rowan at his home
studio, and mastered by award-winning engineer Matthew Fink.
When not in studio, Rowan has recently been
spotted performing guitar with local legends Just Jinjer, and collaborating
with Gangs of Ballet and Nibs van der Spuy. He looks forward to returning to
one of his favourite stages in order to bring his new music to the people of
Pietermaritzburg, having enjoyed a sold-out album launch in Durban earlier this
month.
The performance
takes place this evening (May 23) at 35 Montgomery Drive, Pietermaritzburg. Tickets
R100. Doors open at 18h30 and the music will
kick off at 19h30. A delicious home-made soup is available for R30. CDs will be
on sale. Booking is essential on 033 342 3051 or email: booking@musicrevival.co.za.
