June 13 at 20h00 on BBC Entertainment channel 120 DStv
Created and written by Peter Flannery, based
on George Gently by Alan Hunter, the series stars Martin Shaw in the
title role with Lee Ingleby. It is a period crime drama set in the 1960s about
an old-school detective trying to come to terms with a turbulent time when the
lines between the police and criminals have become blurred.
In series 6, Bacchus hands in his
resignation, much to everyone's surprise and George uses the time left on his
notice to enlist Bacchus' help in solving the fatality of a rioter who was in
police custody at the time of death. Following this, the death of a bluecoat at
a local holiday camp sees George uncovering a dark, seedy and permissive
culture within the camp staff.
Later, George must uncover the truth about
drug testing by the military at Porton Down, after a young former soldier
commits murder. Finally, a death in a coal mine in Burnsend uncovers the
simmering tensions in a community that is being torn apart by national
politics.
