M-Net has acquired the rights to screen the
first season of the brand-new psychological thriller Penny Dreadful only days after its US broadcast.
The eight Penny Dreadful Season 1 episodes are currently running on Fridays.
"This sophisticated series for adults
is the perfect companion-piece for Game
of Thrones on Friday evenings," says M-Net's Head of Publicity, Lani
Lombard. "But do take note, you need a strong stomach for its arty, yet
bloody and dark horror scenes. We would also like to remind our terrestrial
viewers to double-check the starting times of our Friday night shows, as they
sometimes differ from the satellite screenings due to live sporting
events.”
Set in Victorian London, Penny Dreadful embroils some of
literature’s most famously terrifying characters - including Dr Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and
iconic figures from the novel Dracula
- in the same fictional space.
The series features a sterling cast, Billie
Piper (Doctor Who) as Brona Croft,
Josh Hartnett (30 Days Of Night) as
Ethan Chandler, Eva Green (Sin City: A
Dame to Kill For) as Vanessa Ives, Timothy Dalton (Doctor Who) as Sir Malcolm Murray, Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Harry Treadaway (Cockneys vs Zombies) as Dr. Victor
Frankenstein, Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray and Helen McCrory as Madame Kali.
