The Moment of Truth
(MOT) Hip-hop showcase has had an impressive run since its inception, but the
2014 edition is shaping up to be the most exciting one yet. Over 4,000 hip-hop
pilgrims will journey to the Pinetown Civic Centre to check out the best of
everything that KZN hip-hop music and its kingmakers have to offer. The
activities in the Centre are an amazing resource for hip-hop music lovers and
admirers of the culture at every level.
This year’s event
promises to showcase up and coming hip-hop acts, within the setting of the
historic venue. This event is a platform for artists to launch their careers as
well as show off their raw talent to an appreciative audience.
The format is simple
pre-registered MCs and battle crews perform live in an attempt to show that
they’ve got what it takes to survive the moment of truth. And at the end of the
hip-hop apocalypse only those who come out on the other side will claim the
coveted prize of a R2,500 Winners cheque for MCs and R5,000 worth of prizes for
Dance Crews proudly sponsored by DC Clothing. If the audience boos you off
stage, you’re out of luck.
According to Ayanda
Makukule, one of the founders of MOT, the concept of the event stems from a
need to merge all the different styles of hip-hop the province has to offer.
“We wanted to create something different for Durban that would also add value
to the great work that various people have done for KZN’s hip-hop community. We
want MOT to be an accurate reflection of the different shades and forms that
hip-hop takes in our province and we are glad we are achieving that,” said
Makukule. “This latest edition will be an extension of the legacy this event is
already having on the provinces music scene and being able to provide a
consistent platform for new talent.”
The MOT Trade Show
will also be held at the same venue - and is the heart of the convergence for
the evolving industry represented. The trade show offers a unique opportunity
for performers and other industry professionals to meet in one-on-one scenarios
and exchange information. Regions from around KZN are represented by
participating crews. At the trade show visitors can purchase one of a kind
items on sale (some of which are exclusive items available only for the
duration of the event) These include clothing, CDs and mixtapes.
A complete list of
Exhibition participants and direct links to each company will be put up on the
regularly updated facebook page.
