GEE-WIZZ & FUN-TASIA



The South African Magical Society (SAMS) will host magicians, illusionists and entertainers at a National Magic Convention at the Rhumbelow Theatre this coming weekend.

Building on the success of their previous Rhumbelow shows, SAMS will also present two shows for the public. These are Gee-Wizza Wow of a show and Fun-Tasia, two once-off magical variety shows featuring local Durban magicians and entertainers, as well as guest performers from around South Africa.

Gee-Wizz takes place tomorrow (July 19) with Fun-Tasia following on Sunday (July 20)

In Gee-Wizz, six local magicians and entertainers and guests together with dancers and will perform magical acts, comedy, illusions, songs, dances and juggling with Tom the Juggler and poi. Directed and co-ordinated by Ricki Gray and Bennie Mathee, the show is aimed at entertaining all ages and will be a treat for the whole family. Performers include SAMS members Bennie Mathee, Adi Paxton, Adrian Smith, Tom Hastings Wayne Driver, Darryn Le Grange and guests. The performance will take place on Saturday (July 19) at 20h00.

By contrast, Fun-Tasia aims to entertain the young and young-at-heart. Here four popular local children’s entertainers including Rhumbelow regular, Adi Paxton aka Cherry the Magical Clown (as MC), will join out-of-town performers in a fun show featuring comedy, magic and illusion acts. This show is co-ordinated by Adrian Smith, well-known for his children’s magic shows as Adrian the Magician and features Bennie Matthee who won SAMS annual Colin Rood Children’s Magic Trophy last year. The performance will take place on Sunday (July 20) at 14h00.

Tickets for each show R120 (R100 pensioners and block bookings (8 or more) and R60 for children under 13).

The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnics. Bring food picnic baskets. Braais will be available for those who wish to cook some meat. A bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Limited secure parking available. Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue, off Bartle Road in Umbilo.
