(Reviews from the
artSMart team currently in Grahamstown at the National Arts Festival)
Performers unify the ability to show their love and passion
for dance. (Review by Pauline Dalais)
On the night I went to see the Gauteng Motjeko Dance performance, the Supreme 1 Dance Crew was
performing.
Supreme 1 is a dance crew from Soweto in Johannesburg. They
showcase three dimensional theatre where they use pop-locking, voguing and fast
footwork. Their dance tells the stories of how urban children live in their
daily routines of school, home and chores. They unify the ability to show their
love and passion for dance. The cast consists of Thabo Matsebe, Bheki Shabalala
and Siyabonga Ndaba with Thandeka Nlamane being the only “rose” in the group The
music they dance to ranges from local to international.
Presented by the Department of Sport, Recreation, Art &
Culture – Gauteng, Gauteng Motjeko Dance
is directed by Thabong Ramaila with choreography by Mpho Ramagase and Pele Gae.
Catch Supreme 1 Dance Crew and the Real Actions Production at the Centenary
Hall. Tickets are R30/R25. – Pauline Dalais
