OOM SCHALK, FROM THE HEART

Have you told your child a story today? If not perhaps you should come and listen to Oom Schalk Lourens as he tells a few tales, short and tall, of his experiences in Groot Marico.

Celebrating the genius of Herman Charles Bosman, Cape Town actor David Muller appears in his acclaimed his one-hander fresh from the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. Five of Bosman’s most celebrated and superbly entertaining tales feature in this delicious evening’s entertainment: the whimsical Veld Maiden; the touching In the Withaak’s Shade; the hilarious A Bekkersdal Marathon; The Gramophone, a macabre tale centring on a hot-headed husband, and Willem Prinsloo’s Peach Brandy

Directed by Celia Musikanth, the production also enjoyed media acclaim when it was staged at the Kalk Bay Theatre in March this year… The Cape Times hailed the show as “a colourful celebration of the act of storytelling best enjoyed with a healthy shot of peach mampoer.”  In a similar vein, The Argus commented that in assuming the mantle of Oom Schalk, “Muller succeeds in creating a fully rounded persona whose narrative skill leaves one craving more of this entertainment, which is as addictive as Willem Prinsloo’s peach brandy.”

Oom Schalk, from the Heart runs at Seabrooke’s Theatre at Durban High School (DHS) from July 15 to 26 from Tuesdays to Saturdays at 19h00. Tickets R80 pp with the usual discounts for block bookings, pensioners & students. To book, call Ailsa on 083 250 2690.
