(Top to bottom: Elmarie van der Vyver, Antoinette Lohmann and Ralitza Macheva. Missing: Cecilia Di Cecco)

The fourth Series concert of Baroque 2000 will present a concert today at 15h00 at the Church of the Mariannhill Monastery.

The concert features The Gut String Quartet which comprises its leader, Antoinette Lohmann (violin), with Elmarie van der Vyver (viola); Ralitza Macheva (violin), and Cecilia Di Cecco (cello).

This ensemble was founded this year (2014): it is the first quartet of its kind in South Africa, being dedicated to 'period' performances of great music from the Baroque and later eras.

The programme includes Joseph Martin Kraus (Miltenberg am Main, 1756 - Stockholm 1792); Quator 1 in A major (before 1780); Luigi Boccherini (Lucca, 1743 - Madrid 1805); Quartetto 1 in e minor (1780); Joseph Haydn (Rohrau 1732 - Wenen 1809), and Quator 4 in D major (1771).

The concert takes place at 15h00 today (August 17) at the Church of the Mariannhill Monastery. Tickets R120 at the door. Ample and safe parking available.
