Television viewers have recently been glued to their TV
screens every Tuesday evening to watch the gripping Kyk-Net youth drama series,
Sterlopers relishing the performance
by Suzzi Swanepoel playing one of the lead characters; Isabel Richter.
With the television series having ended on earlier in July,
fans of the show and Swanepoel have not needed to despair as her new single, Ek Probeer, has just been released to
instant positive response.
Each week, television audiences were enthralled as
Sterlopers exposed the exciting merging of two sides of the South African
entertainment industry - the glittering highways and the shadowy alleys - on
the road to fame. Themes of disillusionment, betrayal, passion and scandal,
accompanied by the roller coaster-ride of desiring success, depict the
storyline.
True to Deon Opperman's writing style and in collaboration
with Philip and Tina Nolte Kruger, this series explored the ambitions, complex
relationships and search for identity which each of the dynamic characters face
in their own separate segment of the industry. Playing the innocent lead,
Swanepoel was joined by a stellar local cast that included the likes of Jaco
Muller, Jenna Dunster, Nadia Beukes, Izak Davel and Marlee van der Merwe, to
name a few.
The TV show has offered established artists an opportunity
to show their talent on a brand new platform, as the series also includes the
performance of popular Afrikaans songs.
Swanepoel has made the decision to use this platform to
release Ek Probeer. The song is about
trying to make a relationship / friendship work. She says: “Sterlopers is one
of the most amazing things that has happened to me and I cannot express my
gratitude enough. Sharing my debut single Ek
Probeer with South Africans is exciting. I've had such a blast exploring
who I am and what I want to represent and sharing this with everyone is such a
joy and blessing.”
