Deadline: August 31, 2014

Rado Star Prize South Africa 2014: Last call for entries

Are you a talented designer waiting to be discovered? Have you entered your project for the Rado Star Prize South Africa 2014? If not, now’s your chance.

With the closing date for entries August 31fast approaching this is your chance to enter for a chance to win 100,000 ZAR and a blog on the rado.com design platform throughout 2015. With hundreds of thousands of individual visits to the Rado website each month, it’s a great way to make your voice heard and get your work seen.

Rado is a globally recognised brand, famous for innovative design and its use of revolutionary materials to create some of the world’s most durable watches. Ever since its beginnings in Lengnau, Switzerland, Rado has had a pioneering spirit, with the brand philosophy “if we can imagine it, we can make it” still holding true today. Design is at the heart of what Rado does and this is underlined by the 30 prestigious international design awards Rado has won for its watches.

“The Rado Star Prize South Africa 2014 is looking for Social Design projects from talented design students or recent design graduates,” says the publicity material. ”Rather than creating something beautiful and functional just to create something beautiful and functional, social design focuses on benefits. What can your design project really do for the individuals and communities it is designed for? Can your fashion project make crossing the road safer? Will your lighting project help to educate a community? Can your audio design project make a community a safer or healthier place to live? Rado doesn’t know the answer to these questions but we’re looking forward to seeing what you can do and what benefits your project can bring. This could be the start of something not only beautiful, but also beneficial. Surprise us and show the world what you can do!”

As part of Rado’s year of support for the World Design Capital Cape Town 2014, Rado is running its competition for the very first time in South Africa. Endorsed by Icsid (International Council for the Societies of Industrial Design) the competition focuses on Social Design and we’re looking for projects from any field of design that can benefit an individual or a community now or in the future.

To find out more, and to enter, visit the Rado Star Prize South Africa 2014 website www.radostarprize.co.za and watch the video. It could be your entry that makes a difference and wins the top prize! The competition is open to design students and non-professional designers living in South Africa and looking to start their career in design in South Africa.
