Art for Humanity and Durban University of Technology
celebrates Women’s Month with the exhibition of the Women for Children Art &
Poetry Collection at the Durban University of Technology Art Gallery.
Created in 2006, the collection aims to give visibility to
the voice of women and to create a platform through which they could express
their concerns regarding the rights and welfare of all children.
The art prints and poetry were created by 25 women artists
and 25 poets primarily from South Africa, the developing world and also from
the international community.
Artists and poets include South Africa’s foremost and
internationally recognised artists and poets Lebogang Mashile, Karen Press,
Judith Mason, Berni Searle, Gabeba Baderoon and others ensured that their
voices became part of South Africa’s cultural heritage and thereby remain
relevant and accessible for future generations.
The high quality of the art and poetry is internationally
recognised and appears in public collections both in South Africa and
internationally. Collections include the Durban Art Gallery, National Museum of
Scotland, Edinburgh, South Africa Parliament, Cape Town and others. For project
