AUDITIONS FOR CLASSICALLY TRAINED INDIAN DANCERS



Auditions: 17 September 2014

Flatfoot Dance Company in collaboration with the Playhouse Dance Residency are looking for two classically trained female Bharatha Natayam and/or Kathak dancers for an up-coming dance theatrework being created by Lliane Loots to be presented in the Playhouse Drama. The work, entitled Bhakti, is a joint venture between award winning choreographer Lliane Loots, and the Playhouse Company.

Dancers need to fulfil the following criteria in order to audition:
Be over 20 years of age
Be available full-time (09h00 to 17h00 daily and some negotiated Saturdays) over the whole of November 2014,
Have a strong classical Bharatha Natayam and/or Kathak training but must be willing to work in a contemporary dance idiom that requires a sharing of skills and dance styles.
Must be open to a workshop process!

Dancers will be working in a paid professional environment and will need to fulfil the standards required of a professional dancer. The fee (pending experience levels) will range between R6,000 to R8.000 for the month of November and the duration of the work from rehearsal to performance.

The auditions will take place on September 17 from sign in and own warm-up at 16h30 followed by the auditions class and presentation from 17h00 to 19h00. The venue will be the Flatfoot dance studio on the UKZN Howard College Campus.

The 1st half of the audition will take the form of a basic contemporary dance warm-up and technique to ascertain dancer’s ability to move out of and beyond only a classical dance style. Loots will look for dancer’s ability to pick up steps quickly and willingness to seamlessly move between styles of dance.

Those auditioning are required to prepare a one-minute solo to showcase their classical training (either Bharatha Natayam or Kathak). Do not exceed the one-minute time frame!

FLATFOOT will contact you on September 16 (Tuesday) to let you know if you have been shortlisted for the audition on September 17 (Wednesday).
