On Wednesday (September 10), The Centre for Jazz and Popular
Music will present Beat-Route, Durban’s finest acoustic swing jazz band.
Beat-Route is one of KZN's most established and busiest Jazz
acts. They have been playing together for many years. The band line-up is
frontman Daniel Sheldon on trumpet and percussion, Logan Byrne on upright bass,
Roy McEwen on drums and the inimitable giant of the jazz guitar, Gerald Sloan
on guitar.
Beat-Route will celebrate their 10th year anniversary with
this special concert when the line-up will feature Devon Hore on drums, Thobeka
Langa on vocals, Avikaar Maney on alto saxophone and flute, Johan van Der Molen
on tenor saxophone, Duncan Wooldridge on trombone and George Mari on trumpet and
as the Musical Director.
The band will play some of Gerald Sloan’s original tunes
along with their usual swing Jazz standards from the old American songbook as
well as some Afro and some more contemporary and unexpected numbers in the Jazz
idiom.
The performance takes place on September 10 at 18h00 at the Centre
for Jazz and Popular Music , UKZN Howard College Campus. Doors open at 17h3.:
